Victor Tam, Music Director
- Victor Tam is the Founder, Chairman and Principal Conductor of the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia. He is also the founder of the Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia, the Hong Kong Youth Wind Philharmonia and the Hong Kong Junior Wind Philharmonia of which he serves as Music Director and conductor.
After graduating from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Mr. Tam was awarded a Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship to study at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in America, where he was recipient of the "Oboe Artistry Award". He then furthered his graduate studies at the Indiana University School of Music with a full scholarship as an Associate Instructor. - Mr. Tam's oboe teachers include Marc Lifschey (Cleveland Orchestra), James Caldwell (Curtis Institute & Philadelphia Orchestra), John Mack (Cleveland Orchestra), William Bennett (San Francisco Symphony Orchestra) Joseph Robinson (New York Philharmonic), David Weber (Atlanta & Birmingham Symphonies), Ronald Roseman (New York Wind Quintet) and Peter Cooper (Colorado Symphony Orchestra).
- Mr. Tam served as principal oboist of the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea), guest principal oboist of the Pusan Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea), the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra (China), and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra as well as having performed as soloist in many countries such as Korea, Thailand, Europe, the USA and in Hong Kong.
Mr. Tam appeared as guest conductor with many orchestras and wind bands including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Music Summer Orchestra (Organized by the Asian Youth Orchestra for their 20th Anniversary), the Bangkok Silpakorn Wind Orchestra (Thailand) and the Asian Wind Orchestra at the Korean International Band Festival. - Mr. Tam has brought the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia, the Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia and the Hong Kong Youth Wind Philharmonia on many tours around the world, including performances in Macau, China, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Austria. Mr. Tam currently serves as a faculty member of the Hong Kong Baptist University, as well as orchestra and wind band conductors at various schools in Hong Kong. He also is an Artist in Residence of the Silpakorn University in Thailand and has appeared as guest conductor with various ensembles throughout Asia.
